Introduction

Chi Mei Industrial Works was established in Tainan City in 1953 by Mr. Wen-Long Hsu, becoming one of Taiwan's earliest plastic processors. It gained industry recognition for its beautiful and durable plastic daily necessities and toys. In 1959, Mr. Hsu founded Chi Mei Corporation, Taiwan's first acrylic sheet producer. The acrylic sheets quickly earned a strong reputation among customers for quality, reliability, and value, soon making the Chi Mei name synonymous with acrylic sheets in Taiwan. Mr. Hsu was revered as the "Father of Acrylics in Taiwan," and within just a decade, Chi Mei became one of the world's leading suppliers of acrylic sheets. The successful operation of Chi Mei Industrial laid a crucial foundation for the Chi Mei Group. With Taiwan's rapid industrial development, the demand for plastic raw materials grew significantly. To meet the need for styrenic resins, Chi Mei partnered with Mitsubishi Petrochemical in 1968 to establish Polychemicals Co., Ltd. The company subsequently launched a series of PS (polystyrene resin), AS (acrylonitrile-styrene resin), and ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer) products. Through breakthroughs in process technology and innovations in production equipment, it produced high-quality, cost-competitive products that earned acclaim in the industry.
