December 17, 2025 – The European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic) announced on its official website that, as the term of Dr. Ilham Kadri, CEO of Syensqo, as President of Cefic and the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) concludes, Cefic acknowledges her outstanding achievements. Her leadership reshaped Europe's understanding of industrial competitiveness and sectoral needs, marking one of the most influential periods in recent European industrial policy history.
Marco Mensink, Director General of Cefic, stated: "Dr. Ilham Kadri's leadership had a transformative impact. She united the entire chemical industry, elevated our status as the 'mother of industry,' and helped establish chemicals as a strategic sector for Europe. She assisted in repositioning competitiveness at the heart of the debate in European politics, earning widespread respect at the highest levels of EU decision-making. We are grateful for her vision, pragmatic approach, and steadfast commitment to the future of European industry."
Cefic has appointed Dr. Markus Kamieth, CEO of BASF, as President of the Council, effective January 1, 2026. Concurrently, Dr. Markus Kamieth will also serve as President of the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA). Cefic congratulates Dr. Markus Kamieth on his new role and looks forward to him leading the industry into a new chapter.
