December 5, 2025 – Asahi Kasei announced that it will cease production of hexamethylenediamine (HMD) as part of its ongoing product portfolio optimization aimed at improving capital efficiency and enhancing corporate profitability.

Hexamethylenediamine (HMD) and its by-product, adiponitrile, are used in the production of materials such as Polyamide 66 (PA66), hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI), and resin curing agents. Based on an assessment of market dynamics, competitiveness, and future capital requirements, Asahi Kasei has decided to exit HMD production. The phase-out is scheduled to be completed by April 2027.

This production halt will not affect Asahi Kasei's PA66 resin and fiber production in Nobeoka, Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan, nor its HDI and derivative production in Hyuga, Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan. All affected employees will be reassigned to other positions within the company. The impact of this phase-out on Asahi Kasei's consolidated performance forecast is expected to be minimal.
