Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation announced that its ZELAS™ TPS material has been adopted for the iP-TEC® series cell culture tubes developed by Sanplatec Corporation.
According to Mitsubishi Chemical, ZELAS™ TPS is a styrenic thermoplastic elastomer specifically designed for medical applications, combining rubber-like elasticity with excellent processability. It has previously been used in medical device tubing and pharmaceutical packaging. Internal company evaluations have shown that in regenerative medicine applications, ZELAS™ TPS demonstrates superior induced pluripotent stem cell (iPS cell) proliferation performance compared to polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
The material has also passed compatibility tests for autoclave sterilization and 25 kGy gamma irradiation sterilization, while offering good heat-sealing properties — all of which are core requirements for closed cell culture systems. These characteristics were key factors in its selection for Sanplatec's iP-TEC® cell culture and transport solutions.
