The LYCRA Company, a global leader in developing innovative fiber and technology solutions for the apparel industry, today announced the global launch of LYCRA® anti-static fiber for workwear and personal protective equipment (PPE). The launch took place during Techtextil, held April 21–26, 2026 in Frankfurt, Germany, one of Europe's leading international trade fairs for technical textiles and nonwovens.

LYCRA® anti-static fiber is designed to meet the growing demand for anti-static performance without compromising comfort. It is made by integrating a proprietary additive directly into the fiber's structure. This approach ensures inherent anti-static properties while maintaining the stretch and recovery performance for which LYCRA® brand is renowned.
From petrochemicals and electronics to pharmaceuticals, static electricity can pose serious challenges in various industrial settings, including electrostatic discharge risk, wearer discomfort, and dust attraction. Anti-static apparel helps dissipate static charges, reduces the likelihood of electrostatic discharge, and supports compliance with industry standards. When integrated into relevant textile systems, fabrics containing LYCRA® anti-static fiber can support certification to recognized anti-static standards such as EN 1149 and IEC 61340, depending on fabric design and testing.
"Workwear and protective apparel must perform reliably under demanding conditions every day," said Marc Souto, Regional Sales Manager for Southwest Europe at The LYCRA Company. "By integrating anti-static functionality with the comfort, fit, and freedom of movement of LYCRA® fibers, we can help create garments that workers actually want to wear daily."
LYCRA® anti-static fiber is available as a spandex solution for knitting, allowing textile mills and manufacturers to integrate anti-static functionality without altering established processing methods. The fiber is offered in multiple decitex options to support a wide range of fabric structures and garment types, including base layers, tops, bottoms, full-body suits, outerwear, and vests.
During Techtextil, The LYCRA Company also showcased other key fibers that enhance worker comfort, including solutions from its FIBERS THAT WORK portfolio:
LYCRA® T400® fiber – resists industrial laundering and maintains good stretch and recovery throughout the garment's lifespan
COOLMAX® EcoMade fiber – 100% recycled polyester, helping keep workers dry on the job
THERMOLITE® fiber and insulation – lightweight and warm
