CHINAPLAS 2024

On April 23, Covestro held a press conference on the closed-loop recycling project of high-value plastics from scrapped cars in China at the CHINAPLAS 2024 International Rubber and Plastics Exhibition to help the automotive industry cope with the challenges of plastic waste management. Covestro will work with partners to explore closed-loop recycling paths for high-value plastics from scrapped vehicles, aiming to establish an efficient and sustainable automotive plastics recycling system and promote the green transformation of the automotive industry.

Project partners include automobile companies, recycling companies, and third-party certification agencies such as TüV Rheinland. All parties will form a team of experts to explore the recycling of discarded polycarbonate parts (such as scrapped car headlights) into post-consumer recycled polycarbonate, which can be used again to produce automobile interior and exterior decorations, thereby saving resources and reducing carbon emissions.
