Ineos has decided to temporarily close its styrene plant in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada due to complaints from residents. According to the company's statement, this move is aimed at ensuring the health and safety of employees and surrounding communities. They will suspend operations to conduct necessary maintenance and mechanical troubleshooting, and will resume production as soon as possible after the problem is resolved. The plant's annual production capacity is considerable, capable of producing 445,000 tons of styrene and 490,000 tons of ethylbenzene (EB). The plant shutdown will further exacerbate supply constraints in the North American styrene market.
