Recently, Saad Sherida al-Kaabi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of Qatar Energy, said the country has signed long-term supply contracts for 25 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and plans to sign more contracts within the year.

Kaabi said that Qatar Energy has signed LNG supply contracts with many European and Asian countries and will be supplied by the eastward expansion project of the Northern Gas Field that is about to be put into operation.

In February this year, Qatar announced that it would further expand LNG production from the current 77 million tons to 142 million tons. Kaabi said LNG demand is expected to continue to increase. The company will continue to explore for natural gas reserves in response to future demand growth. Since the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, competition in the LNG field has intensified, and the European market will need more Qatari LNG in the future.
