Polyurethane foam mattress manufacturer Sinomax is consolidating its U.S. production operations at its facility in Tennessee, a move that will result in the elimination of 89 production jobs at the plant, according to the company and its Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filing.
The company said relocating its domestic production to the 1-million-square-foot plant in LaVergne, Tennessee, is part of a broader effort to improve efficiency and streamline operations.
The consolidation will affect approximately 89 employees engaged in production work in Phoenix, Arizona. The company said it will work with affected employees over the next month to help them transition to new employment opportunities.
Sinomax noted that operational challenges in Arizona were a key factor in the decision, particularly difficulties in obtaining permits related to foam pouring, a critical step in its production process.
"Given these issues, we could not consider the location a long-term strategic manufacturing investment," the company said in a statement.
While the Phoenix, Arizona, facility will cease production, the plant, which opened in 2021, will continue to operate as a distribution center for the foreseeable future.
"While we regret having to take this action, we believe it is in the best interest of the company's healthy development and long-term growth," the statement read.
Sinomax's LaVergne, Tennessee, plant, which began operations in 2017, was the company's first facility in the United States.
