The area hosts several major petrochemical companies and projects. Among them, SABIC is one of the main investors. Additionally, the Sadara project, involving U.S.-based Dow Chemical, and a project jointly invested by Saudi Aramco and France's TotalEnergies are also located within the industrial zone.

Damage assessments are ongoing. The statement did not identify the party that launched the missiles.
The Israel Defense Forces said in a statement on the 6th that they carried out airstrikes on a major petrochemical complex in the Asaluyeh region of southern Iran, which is the largest petrochemical complex in Iran.
