On January 22, 2026, Covestro announced the official launch of Dureflex® MA5000. This innovative thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) film uses paper as a substrate and is specifically designed for high-performance medical applications, such as medical wearable devices including intravenous (IV) securement dressings and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) patches.

Manufacturing complex medical products is challenging due to film softness, intricate die-cutting, and the need for high-temperature adhesive lamination. Maintaining dimensional stability, cutting accuracy, and high-temperature bonding performance requires a stable substrate. Dureflex® MA5000 ensures reliable processing performance, consistent product quality, and enhanced production efficiency.
Dureflex® MA5000 offers three key advantages to effectively address these challenges:
Designed for Precise and Stable Processing: High substrate rigidity, predictable release force, and smooth web handling ensure accurate processing, reliable part separation, and higher finished product yields.
Supports High-Temperature Adhesive Coating: Remains stable at temperatures above 135°C. The rigid carrier ensures uniform adhesive coating with minimal distortion and reliable separation.
Provides Structural Support, Simplifying Device Application: Maintains geometric shape for precise positioning, supports step-by-step application, and enables one-handed operation.
Dureflex® MA5000 is suitable for various medical uses:
Intravenous (IV) securement dressings
Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) patches
Scar management dressings
Medical wearable devices
Flexible printed electronics
Kidd Wang, Medical Business Manager at Covestro, stated: "This product embodies Covestro's commitment to innovation in healthcare materials. By addressing specific manufacturing challenges, we are helping our customers develop more effective and user-friendly medical devices, thereby improving patient outcomes."
Dureflex® MA5000 is now commercially available for applications.
