May 16, 2024 - Lubrizol announced the expansion of its portfolio of bio-based thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) for adhesives with the addition of Pearlbond™ ECO 590 HMS TPU for hot melt adhesives (HMA).
This renewable-sourced high-performance resin can be used by adhesive formulators or designers in furniture, edging, electronics, hot melt films, textile lamination, waterproofing strips, footwear and transportation.
Pearlbond™ ECO 590 HMS thermoplastic polyurethane is a fast-curing solution with good bonding properties for applications requiring toluene-free, greener bonding alternatives with high temperature and hydrolysis resistance. Furthermore, it is designed to improve processability (compared to previously existing solutions in hot melt adhesives) and has broad wettability.
MariaJosep Riba, Global Sustainability Manager for Lubrizol Engineered Polymers, said: “With its high thermoplasticity and extrusion processability, Pearlbond™ ECO 590 HMS is distinct from bio-based hot melt adhesive polymers previously available on the market.
Additionally, it is a bio-based resin with up to 59% bio-content, making it ideal if you need to combine performance with a lower carbon footprint.”
Expanded bio-based thermoplastic polyurethane solutions, including ESTANE® and Pearlbond™ ECO, will support Lubrizol in accelerating its global sustainability journey. The journey is based on three pillars including bio-TPU, biomass balance and post-industrial recycled TPU.
