The key to successfully achieving the business transformation of Cheil Industries was the launch of its Chemical division. Since the completion of the ABS and PS plants at the Yeosu facility in 1989, the Chemical division has contributed 40% of Cheil Industries' total sales and has maintained rapid growth. In particular, the company holds the world's leading market share in flame-retardant ABS for displays and extrusion-grade ABS resin for refrigerators. It was also the first in the world to develop scratch-resistant resin for housing materials used in TVs, home theaters, and other applications, earning global recognition for its technological capabilities. Subsequently, it has developed environmentally friendly PCM base materials and bio-based materials, demonstrating a leading role as an eco-conscious enterprise. In 2007, the completion of the PC plant marked a major entry into the engineering plastics market, laying a solid foundation for the company as an engineering plastics player. By establishing local subsidiaries in North America, Europe, China, and other regions, Cheil Industries continues to strengthen its global competitiveness.
